About the Association of GM PCTs
The Association of Greater Manchester Primary Care Trusts (AGMPCT) are the 10 PCTs in Greater Manchester working together on issues of common concern.
Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) are responsible for the health of the population they serve and are responsible for purchasing services to meet health needs (e.g. they purchase services from hospitals). Each PCT is its own organisation and works hard to build partnerships locally - the PCT works closely for example with the local council.
The PCTs working together across Greater Manchester make it easier to look at purchasing the right healthcare services by sharing information and good practice and have consistent policies and commissioning decisions. It also makes it easier to work with GM wide based partners, such as the police, the fire and rescue services, transport.
Because they are responsible for the health of their population PCTs are also very keen to address the causes of ill health and are also keen to address the gap in health status between the poorest and more affluent parts of their areas.
